Ingredients

  • 8 Hawaiian sweet rolls cut into quarters
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans optional
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar for dusting, optional

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Place the quartered Hawaiian rolls evenly in the prepared baking dish. If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans over the rolls.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the rolls, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Gently press down on the rolls to help them absorb the liquid.
  5. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and let it sit for 15-30 minutes to allow the rolls to soak up the mixture.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes covered, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
