Crust Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt.
- Cut in cold unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press the crumbly dough into the bottom of a greased 20x30 cm baking pan.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 10 minutes until lightly golden.
Fig Filling Preparation
- While the crust bakes, rinse and chop the dried figs.
- In a saucepan, combine chopped figs with enough water to cover them.
- Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes until the figs soften.
- Blend the mixture with lemon juice until smooth, then spread over the baked crust.
Cream Cheese Preparation
- In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
- Gradually add sugar, vanilla extract, and egg, mixing until well combined.
- Pour this cream cheese mixture over the fig layer and spread gently.
Baking
- Bake the assembled bars for approximately 30 minutes until edges are set.
- The center should remain slightly jiggly.
Cooling and Slicing
- Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, cut the bars into squares or rectangles with a sharp knife.
