Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed hashbrowns, egg, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
Scoop about 1/2 cup of the mixture and place it in the center of the preheated waffle maker. Close the lid and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the chaffle is golden brown and crispy.
Carefully remove the chaffle and repeat the process with the remaining mixture, greasing the waffle maker as needed.
Serve immediately with your favorite toppings, such as sour cream, salsa, or avocado.
