- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine dark chocolate chips and unsalted butter. Microwave on high for 45 seconds until melted. Stir until smooth.
- Whisk in dark brown sugar, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, vanilla extract, and kosher salt into the melted chocolate mixture until smooth.
- In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil over medium heat, then remove from heat.
- Pour in spiced rum (or bourbon) into the hot water, and gradually stream in the chocolate mixture while whisking continuously.
- Divide the hot chocolate between two mugs, topping with whipped cream, a dusting of cinnamon, and cocoa powder.
