  • 1/4 cup Hot Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Ground Ginger Key flavor ingredient.
  • 2 cups Flour
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Milk Combine for a glossy finish.

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Gather your cookie sheets and cooling racks, and preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Make the Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth, then set aside.
  3. Combine Molasses and Shortening: Heat molasses and shortening in a saucepan until well combined and sticky.
  4. Cream Sugar, Egg, and Vanilla: Mix until smooth and light in color, about 3 minutes.
  5. Dissolve Baking Soda in Hot Water: Dissolve baking soda in hot water and mix into the creamed mixture.
  6. Incorporate Spices and Flour: Gradually add spices and flour until the dough is slightly sticky.
  7. Roll Out Dough: Roll the dough to ½ inch thick and use cookie cutters to shape the cookies.
