Description

Hearty Turkey Meatballs in Zesty Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil

Instructions

  1. Begin by setting your oven to 400°F (200°C) and preparing a baking tray with parchment paper or a light coating of oil.
  2. In a spacious bowl, mix together the ground turkey, panko breadcrumbs, mozzarella cheese, basil, egg, minced garlic, garlic powder, thyme, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if you like a bit of heat. Stir until everything is well incorporated, being careful not to overwork the mixture.
  3. Shape the mixture into small balls, roughly 1 to 1.5 inches in size, and arrange them on the prepared baking tray.
  4. Drizzle the avocado oil over the meatballs to enhance browning during baking.
  5. Place the tray in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  6. While the meatballs are baking, warm the tomato sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Once the meatballs are ready, gently transfer them into the sauce and let them simmer together for about 5-10 minutes to meld the flavors.
  7. Serve these delightful meatballs over your favorite pasta, in a warm sub sandwich, or alongside a bed of fluffy rice for a satisfying meal. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider using fresh herbs instead of dried.
  • These meatballs can be frozen for later use.
  • Adjust the level of cayenne pepper according to your spice preference.
