Description

A delicious and easy-to-make Campfire Apple Crisp cooked in foil packets, perfect for outdoor gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Aluminum foil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the campfire or grill to medium heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Mix well to coat the apples evenly.
  3. In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, flour, melted butter, and salt until crumbly.
  4. Lay out a large piece of aluminum foil (about 18 inches long) and place half of the apple mixture in the center. Top with half of the oat mixture.
  5. Fold the foil over the apple and oat mixture to create a sealed packet. Make sure it is tightly sealed to prevent any juices from leaking out.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the remaining apple and oat mixtures to create a second packet.
  7. Place both packets on the grill or campfire grate and cook for 20-25 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  8. Carefully open the packets (watch out for steam) and serve warm.

Notes

  • For added flavor, sprinkle some chopped nuts or raisins into the apple mixture before sealing the packets.
  • Substitute pears or peaches for the apples for a different fruit crisp experience.
